Work continues for the students of Black Mountain Public School. The Primary class are really enjoying having UNE student, Mr Christian West teaching in the classroom.
Last week the students participated in a Landcare day at the school with Landcare officer Ms Bec Smith. Both the primary and the infants’ classes enjoyed lessons with Ranger Bec.
The focus for the day was frogs, and the students learned about the many different frogs of the area, including the frogs’ enemy, the cane toad. They heard frog noises, and even had their faces painted like frogs. The primary students also used the school sandpit to learn about sustainable farming. It was wonderful for the students to be able to complement their science studies with lessons from an expert.
The Black Mountain P&C continues to support the learning of the students at the school by fundraising so that the students are able to have extra resources. This week the P&C will be providing a sausage sizzle lunch for the students to raise funds. These fundraisers not only raise extra funds but they are great social events for the students.
Coming up also for the infants students will be en excursion to the Guyra Museum. The students have been studying the olden days in a Human Society and Its Environment unit called “As We Were”. No doubt not only will the students have a great time, they will also learn much about our past.
Congratulations to last week’s Star Students of the Week. Primary Star student was Shah Biffin. Shah is only very new to the school but he is already very popular with all of the students.
Infants Star Student was Kindergarten student Gary Lansley, who is a very kind boy also very popular with the other students.
