Blackspot funding for two roads in New England Electorate

4/09/2008 5:00:00 AM
Funding for upgrades to two sections of dangerous road in the New England electorate under the Federal Blackspots Program has been welcomed by Federal MP Independent Tony Windsor.

The Bundarra Road south from the intersection with the Old Bundarra Road at GILGAI will increase the seal width from 5.6m to 8m and provide acceptable superelevation and horizontal and vertical realignment for a 1.92km length at a cost of $161,370

The second project to be funded is on the Guyra Road 68.78km to 71.31km West Of Guyra at GILGAI and entails a full redesign of vertical and horizontal alignments. It will provide appropriate superelevation and shoulder widths increased by 2.0m and cost $185,000.

Mr Windsor thanked the Federal Government for their recognition of these two Blackspots in the electorate.

“The Blackspot Program is very well respected for the assistance it gives to dangerous sections of road not just on major highways.

I thank Minister Albanese for his announcements and look forward to the projects’ completion and the reduction of the danger at these locations.

I also look forward to the proposed increase in black spot funding by 33 per cent, up to $60 million nationally in next year’s budget,” Mr Windsor said.

Anyone can suggest a location or a section of road for black spot funding using a nomination form at www.auslink.gov.au.
