New cricket pitch at Central School

20/11/2008 11:03:00 AM
Guyra Central School’s P&C Association has been very generous again this week and has paid for our cricket pitch to be re-laid. The pitch is used not only by our students for sport, but by other groups for weekend competitions. Thank you for this generosity and to the dads who were involved in the hard years with removing the old pitch and laying the new – in particular, James Stewart, Justin McKay, Campbell Wolfenden and Barry Wilson. Thanks also to Lee Martin who is applying for a grant through the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation for new cricket nets for the school.

This week our executive teachers have participated in valuable professional learning activities which have assisted us to further analyse our NAPLAN results. The training will enable us to carefully plan further successful learning programs for our students.

Our Year 10 students sat for the School Certificate this week and are now looking forward to their upcoming excursion to Sydney. Miss Sherman has been organising this event, and the students are sure to enjoy all of the activities her and Mr Buchanan have planned. Congratulations to our of our Year 10 students who has been doing work experience during the year and has now been offered full time employment over the holidays.

Year 6 students and other students from our partner schools who will be attending Year 7 at Guyra Central School next year start their transition to high school program next year. The students are all excited about the exciting days we have planned for them, and are well and truly ready to move to high school. Thanks to Mrs Moffatt who has been working with a small group of parents organising the Year 6 farewell.

We say a final good-bye to our Year 12 students this week as we celebrate their formal. They have been a great group of students.

Many parents will have read or heard about the changes to the Student Transport Subsidy Scheme. If you know of families who are sending their children on a bus out of town, why not suggest that they call up and discuss options with their LOCAL school? Guyra Central School has great things to offer!

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
