Super Spuds sow seeds for 2009

20/11/2008 11:09:00 AM
Guyra Rugby League has elected a new committee for 2009. Terry Vidler is the new president, with Grant Waters and John Wilcox assisting as vice-presidents. Terry has assisted the club for many years and it is great to see him take on this role to get the Super Spuds back to their best. Mal Gaukroger will continue the secretary role with Peta Waters to be the club registrar and Ian McElroy to continue as our game day official. Any other supporters wishing to come on board as committee members are more than welcome. The club would like to thank Richard Ward for the great job he has done as treasurer of the club over the last two years. Richard is standing down from this position but will continue his long standing support of Guyra Rugby League.

The Oz Tag competition will continue again next year after a successful 2008 season. There will be some changes to the format of the games including playing 11-a-side on a full field, so we can look forward to more great action from the girls.

The club is very keen to elect coaches for 2009 and get teams into some pre-season training. Anyone interested in coaching either Juniors, Presidents Cup (Reserve Grade) or A-Grade should send in their application to Guyra Rugby League, P.O Box 235, Guyra. The closing date for applications is Friday, November 28, 2008. The club is also keen to get sponsors for 2009. Any business interested in being a major or minor sponsor of Guyra Rugby League should contact the secretary on 67792636 or send details to P.O. Box 235 by Friday, November 28, 2008. The club would also like to thank the program sponsors for their support over the years. Any existing sponsor or new business that would like to be in the clubs game day program for next season should contact the secretary. The club will hold a meeting on Sunday November30, at the Royal Hotel, to elect coaches and sponsors. We look forward to a successful season in 2009 and trust that the Guyra Community will once again support the Guyra Super Spuds.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
