Under 16’s

On Saturday the Under 16’s played a do or die match against Ex-Services. To be eligible to make the finals the girls needed to win against Servies who were undefeated on top of the table. Unfortunately the Girls went down 3-0 and their hopes of making the finals were gone. The girls put up a fight to stay in but were unable to play their usual short game and failed to control the ball well enough to convert on their efforts. Sally, Erica and Blanche were standouts in the back, while Ashlee and Nat both had strong games in the front. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the girls for putting in such a great effort all year - they have been a pleasure to coach and many of them have a great future in hockey if they wish to continue. Also thanks to all the parents who have supported me and the team and finally to the Hockey Club Committee who put in a great deal of work without much reward. The Presentation Day date is still yet to be decided but all players will be informed once a decision is made.

Division 2

A disappointing game was played on Monday night by the Division 2 ladies who played against Classics losing 1-0. The Guyra girls seemed to display a lack of flare in the last comp game of the season, not being able to get passes away and to many times hitting the ball directly to classics players. At times there were flashes of the typical Guyra game but in all it was a poor game and if the Guyra girls want to make the grand final again they will have to pick up their game. Looking forward the girls have a big game this Saturday at 3pm when they take on Ex Services in the major semi. If the girls win they will go straight through to the grand final which will be played on September 20. This is the time of year to really get out and support our local sporting clubs so make your way to Armidale this weekend to cheer on the girls in their run to the grand final!

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
