Guyra Junior Rugby League went to Uralla on Sunday to play in the semi finals. Our Under 8s had a great time playing football in the rain, while they were wet and cold hopefully they had fun sliding around in the rain. Our Under 10s unfortunately didn’t win. But these boys with the odds stacked against them, played their hearts out. They should be very proud of themselves as the club is extremely proud of the way they played, you will get them next year boys. This weekend is the Grand Final which is being played in Glen Innes. Under 8s first game is 9.30am please be there at 9am. They will play five games of football.
Our Presentation Day is September 20 at 11am at the Guyra Bowling Club, could ALL parents please bring a salad are equivalent for the barbecue please.
There will be more in next week’s paper telling every one of the wonderful prizes that we will be raffling off.
Under 10’s with James McCormack: Last Sunday we travelled to Uralla to play Inverell West in the Group 19 junior league semi finals with the winner to progress to the Grand Final.
Our might Under10s were very excited as this was the first time they had played in a semi finals series. Inverell had a lot of ball in the first half due to a very large penalty count against our boys, but to the boys credit they tackled their hearts out and went to half time up 12 points to 6.
Again in the second half the penalties kept going to Inverell and our boys played and tackled like they have never played before but with not a lot of ball Inverell were able to score another two tries to run out winners 14 points to 12, for the record the penalty count was Inverell 15 Guyra 4.
As coach I was extremely proud of our team as they never gave up and all played as good as I have seen them play this year and that is all a coach can ask for.
This season has been a great season for the team with all players showing great improvement, I would like to thank all the team for their effort this season at both training and games. I would also like to thank Darren Towells and Frank White for all their help during the season. I hope to see all players and parents at our presentation day on September 20. Also late in our game an Inverell player was injured in a tackle and I am happy to report that he is home a bit sore but will be ok.
Again team all of Guyra is very proud of you and I could not be happier with your effort this season.
