Another School term comes to an end, and with this comes a cessation of hostilities in what is known as Junior Soccer in the Armidale and District Competition. A three week break is the upshot of this with Soccer resuming on the July 26. Parents of those in the age groups 10, 12 and 14 may have a new draw to come to terms with after the associations grading of those age groups during the break.
Mixed results from the weekend with some great soccer being played by our sides. The under 14 Dashas went down 2 - 1, very unlucky to have lost this one, playing with only 10 players against a full side. Best for the team this week was Cody Tully-Smith however the whole team gave their all in a great effort.
Under 12’s saw the Guyra sides on top this week in both games. The Dragons had a great 5 – 2 win against Demon Knights with Tyson Burey scoring 4 goals. Luke Brazier added our other goal. The whole team played really well together this week with a full compliment travelling away. Everybody was keen to continue on the field with nobody wanting to come off for a break. The Sharks continue to surprise and could almost be called the Teddy Goodwin’s of local soccer. When they are good they are great and when they are bad, well you know! This week they were great with a fantastic 2 – 1 win against Ex Services West. Georgia Smith scored again this week becoming a very consistent performer with her strong right foot. Jonathan Woodhead added Guyra’s second. Jonathon capped a great game being named joint player of the match with Elli Rosten and Jasmine Ramage.
The Walcha team forfeited against the under 10 Cheetahs last Saturday unable to field a full side. With fourteen players from Guyra travelling to Armidale for the game we threw a few onto the other side so the kids could have a run. Playing some fantastic soccer for Walcha were Sophie Gaukroger and Casey Lennon. The score ended at 1 all. This team are certainly jelling together well as a team. The Ghosts did not need a forfeit to win against Joeys. The team played exceptionally well after a slow start, coming out on top 4 – 0. Maddie Atkin was awarded player of the match with Ben Moffat 3 and Darcy Jackson 1 sharing in the scoring. The team played great soccer together with Luke and Lachlan Teirney also standouts.
A trip to Uralla saw the Wombats going down 3 – 2. Thomas Morgan and Callum Moffat scored a goal apiece. Olivia Dullaway did some great kicks and was awarded player of the match. Danielle Sutton roaming from one end of the field to the other also had a great game. Uralla helped us out with a couple of players, with our team being low on numbers. A 2 – 0 win was recorded by the Possums with Cody Martin and Thomas Smith scoring. Joshua Danke had a huge game in the goals for Guyra and came away with player of the match.
Dakota Field scored Guyra’s lone goal for the under 7 Lions in their 6 – 1 loss to North Armidale Canaries. Player of the match was Chloe Brown. The Tigers won 7 – 2 with Kaige (Sorry for getting this name wrong for so long.) McLauchlin 2, Isaiah King 2, Morgan Wood 2, and Kolby Kennedy scoring 1. After a slow start to the season this team is certainly playing great soccer. A 4 – 1 win by the Cubs keeps their winning streak alive. At least five wins in a row by this side so far. Cormack Hume scored 2 with Jackson Clark and Cooper Stanley scoring 1 each. The Titans unfortunately had to forfeit against DK Lancers, due to illness striking this side hard during the week. Another under 7 team going from strength to strength are the Simbas recording another huge 10 – 0 win. This side are playing some great soccer with their coach staying off the field to give the opposition half a chance with still much the same result as usual. Best this week were Sarah Rosten and Mathew Smith.
In representative Soccer this week three of our local players featured. Austin Youman played in Tamworth in an Armidale District side for the Inter Town Competition. The side came away with two wins from two games defeating Tamworth and Gunnedah. The State Youth League saw Adam Lennon playing for the under 13 Northern Inland side with a win against Central Coast 1 – 0. This side is sitting third on the table which is an outstanding result, playing against such good quality opposition. BJ Kleindeinst played in the under 15 Northern Inland side which was defeated by Central Coast.
Remember no soccer this week. Try to have a sleep in, certainly something I will be trying for.
